Sierra Madre, though it is connected to the entirety of Los Angeles County, is a smaller community, with approximately 10,000 full-time residents. The community is part of the Pasadena Unified School District, and there are many private schools available for children, as well. Public school for those of high-school age is provided in the nearby community of Pasadena. These communities are so physically close that the commute time is very short. Within the city, younger children don’t have to travel far to make it to their neighborhood elementary school.
The needs of elementary students are provided by Sierra Madre Elementary school. This facility handles schooling through the traditional elementary grades, as well as the usual junior high levels of 7th and 8th grade. The school district has a good reputation. There are also numerous extracurricular activities offered at the school and by the city itself. Those students who want to expand on what’s offered in the classroom may participate in any of the many events and classes offered by the municipality, including arts and sports instruction.
For those who are off to high school, education is provided at the Pasadena High School. This school has a good reputation and provides numerous activities for students. Though the school is located in Pasadena, it is named the Sierra Madre High School, a testament to how closely connected these two cities are in some regards. The community also offers activities appropriate for those of a high school age, including arts and athletic programs. Bussing is available for students who live far enough from the school to make commuting necessary. The private school options in Sierra Madre are attended by children from several nearby communities, including cities as far away as Los Angeles.
Among the private Sierra Madre schools for the youngest students are the Gooden School and the Saint Rita Parish and Elementary School. There is also the Bethany Christian School, which provides education for grades K-8. There are also options for high schools students. The Alverno High School is an all-female school that provides education to girls from many of the surrounding areas, in addition to having students from Sierra Madre, itself. There are also post-secondary education options in the immediate area, including art colleges and other institutions that offer specialized instruction. The larger schools in the nearby communities are only a short drive away via the Interstates.
